Outdoor GPS tracking stops

If you are experiencing sporadic pauses during your outdoor workouts, the culprit is often a simple setting rather than a broken app.

Here are the two most common reasons your tracking might be failing and how to fix them.

1. "Auto Pause" Feature

Beefit, come with an Auto Pause feature. It automatically stops the clock when you wait at a red light or stop for a water break.

However, this feature relies heavily on a consistent GPS signal. If you pass through an area with tall buildings, heavy tree cover, or poor satellite reception, the app might momentarily "lose" you. If the signal drops or becomes inaccurate, the app may incorrectly assume you have stopped moving and trigger the Auto Pause.+

  • Check your workout screen for an "Auto Pause Enabled" notification (often indicated by a pause icon with circular arrows).

  • Go into the app settings and disable Auto Pause. This forces the app to keep recording regardless of signal fluctuations, ensuring you don't lose chunks of your workout data.

2. Location Permissions: "While Using" vs. "Always Allow"

Modern smartphones have strict battery saving protocols. If your location permission is set to "While Using the App," the phone’s operating system might "throttle" or cut off the GPS signal the moment you lock your screen or put the phone in your pocket to save power.

When the system asks for location access, you should ideally select "Change to Always Allow."

Why? This gives the app permission to maintain a constant, high priority connection to the GPS hardware even when the app is running in the background or your screen is off.

  • Privacy Note: Reliable apps like Beefit only actively use this "Always" permission while a GPS workout is currently in progress.
